My 2012 Kentucky Derby pick: Union Rags, who finished 7th.
I think I will always remember the 2012 Triple Crown, even if it ended in disappointment for me… except for that Belmont race of course. (Photo by Thoroughbred Champions)
Normandy Invasion is reminding me a lot of Mucho Macho Man right now. He looks like a great router physically, but skinny as though he is going through another growth spurt. The skinny factor pushed MMM off my winner list when he ran in the Derby, but I am still mulling things over for Normmy, who has arrived at Churchill. (Photo by Derby Media)
I’ll be breaking apart the Blue Grass Stakes (I) today as the final Derby Handicap race, and while I wish to look at the whole field, I’ve been favoring Gary Contessa’s Rydilluc for quite a while. Great looking horse out on the turf by Medaglia d’Oro with three straight wins heading into the race, his last being an effortless win in the 9-furlong Palm Beach (III) on grass over Kitten’s Joy Stakes winner Charming Kitten. He does have some detractors, but I’ll be keen to watch him.
Just looking over my old Belmont Stakes day images instead of doing homework. Makes me all kinds of miffed that I didn’t have a faster and longer lens that day, which kept being cloudy and sunny on and off which fuzzed up just about all of my pictures. THIS YEAR WILL BE DIFFERENT NOW THAT I HAVE LIKE 4 DIFFERENT LENSES! Al Khali and Mike Smith before the Manhattan Handicap (I).
