Why We Watch: Michael Matz, From Rags to Roses — The day I picked Union Rags to win on the program for the Saratoga Special (II) last year, it was chiefly because I believed in Michael Matz’s abilities as a horseman… the reasoning behind that notion in his history.

I wasn’t feeling it looking at the horses running in today’s Phoenix Stakes (III) at Keeneland. As cool as Flashpoint is, he’s terribly inconsistent and Aikenite was being fawned over too much earlier in the day by Three Chimneys Farm (which to me is as unlucky as saying Macbeth three times). I saw the name HOOFIT, loved it. Edgar Prado’s riding him, loved it. THAT IS ALL THE INFORMATION I NEED! HOOFIT WILL WIN!
And yeah, he won hahaha. Expert handicapping at its best. Look how cute he is anyway! (I think it’s pronounced Hoof It, not Hoo-fit)
