Afonso de Sousa, a half brother to near-Triple Crown winner Big Brown sired by multi-G1 winner Henrythenavigator, was scratched in today’s first Derby qualifier/Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf berth at Newmarket (and one of the few European preps) won by Steeler, one of the first sons of Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Raven’s Pass. Trained by Aidan O’Brien, Afonso de Sousa broke his maiden immediately at Leopardstown by an easy 9 lengths. *adds to the list*
