My 2011 Kentucky Derby horse: Nehro, who finished 2nd.
It was my first time trying to legitimately handicap the Derby, and overall, not a bad job! Nehro became my horse after his rushing 2nd in the Arkansas Derby (I). He showed great tenacity when almost-beating my pick Archarcharch, who unfortunately drew the rail post in the Derby. It kind of sucked not being able to go to the Belmont that year because I wanted to see “my” horse as well as Animal Kingdom in the flesh, but hey maybe someday he’ll show up again around here! I wish Afleet Again was running in the Marathon (II) this year. Sigh. I would’ve liked him to win last year had I known he was running… I had him down to win in a Saratoga betting contest on Facebook! (Photo by Lauren Pomeroy)

Animal Kingdom strides to the winner’s circle with Alan Garcia after winning the Spiral Stakes (III), going on to win the Kentucky Derby (I) afterwards. Is the same fate in the cards for similarly-connected Went the Day Well?
