R.I.P. 2008 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf winner Maram, who died yesterday from an acute illness. She had her first foal earlier this year, a colt by Giant’s Causeway. Her name means “wish, dream, desire, destiny” in Arabic. The 2008 Juvenile Turf Fillies test was a thrilling nailbiter, when Maram flew from 7th place to nip front-running Laragh at the wire while holding off Heart Shaped in a photo finish.
